Late Holidays To The Great American Lakes: Explore Them In A Canoe

There is so much to do at the Great Lakes of America and there are plenty of late holidays available. Explore the Great Lakes in a canoe, which is always a popular activity. Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie, and Ontario make up the largest collection of freshwater lakes on this earth and make for a beautiful and scenic holiday.

If you’re in the Lake Erie area, be sure to visit Put-in-Bay on South Bass Island. There are so many different things to do here, including relaxing on the beach, hiking, cycling or canoeing. Several authors have written about the lake, which encompasses Ontario, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan and New York.

It is worth considering package holidays if you don’t want the hassle of organizing all your activities once you get there. Scenic places to visit once you’re at Lake Superior include Pukaskwa National Park, Lake Superior Provincial Park and Porcupine Mountains Wilderness. Found in Ontario, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan; the lake is the largest in the world by surface area.

Lake Ontario is the smallest of the five lakes, but arguably offers the best boating opportunities. Commonly used for pleasure boats is the Rideau Canal, which connects the lake at Kingston to the Ottawa River in Ottawa. You can also check out the Trent-Severn Waterway, which links up with Lake Huron at the Bay of Quinte, making for quite an exciting canoe trip

Lake Michigan is the second largest lake by volume and its shores are home to about 12 million people, mainly in Chicago and Milwaukee. It’s the only Great Lake to be located entirely in America, as the others spread into Canada as well. The beaches along the coastline are perfect for sporting activities and there are lots of holiday deals available there.

The most interesting feature of Lake Huron is Manitoulin Island, which offers some wonderful canoeing opportunities. It’s definitely wise to check out the routes and familiarise yourself with area before you head out as the open waters are huge.
