UK Weekend Breaks : A Short Guide
When work gets you down or you just want a change of pace for a few days, there are some fun weekend breaks found in the UK that will recharge your batteries. The United Kingdom may be known as a land of courageous knights and long standing monarchies, but it is also a place of entertainment and revelry. If you are planning on making a weekend of it in the United Kingdom, there some essential locations that will maximize your getaway.
It would be downright criminal to head out into the UK for a weekend and neglect to stop by Blackpool. Seated on England’s western coast on the shores of the Irish Sea, the borough is a hub of England’s tourism and it shows. People from all over flock to the beach that extends along the town’s entire waterfront. Dancing is currently experiencing a boom in popularity, and enthusiasts will marvel at the couples who enter the Blackpool Dance Festival, a world-famous ballroom dancing competition. Arguably the ideal time to stop by Blackpool, however, is at the end of August for the lighting of Blackpool Illuminations. This breathtaking 7-mile long exhibition dazzles viewers with over one million bulbs decorating objects of all shapes and sizes.
Weekend breaks and theme parks make a perfect match, and one of the best parks in the world is Alton Towers located in Staffordshire. Almost 2.7 million people embark on a pilgrimage to its gates annually in order to ride roller coasters such as Nemesis and Oblivion, amongst other attractions. Children will enjoy a jaunt to Storybook Land and a quiet walk through the petting zoo in Old MacDonald’s Farmyard. The Gardens and Swiss Cottage are historic points in Alton Towers, the former playing host to the gorgeous Chinese Pagoda Fountain. The Towers, remains of the edifice that once surrounded the Talbot family home, provide a glimpse into the past and are the namesake of the theme park itself.
For a more relaxing, natural weekend break, the New Forest is ideal. Becoming a National Park in 2005, it is not even two hours from London and offers miles of soothing walking trails, opportunities to visit quaint little villages, and views of a scintillating coastline. Grazing ponies are encountered all over the park but they are privately owned, so guests will have to sign up for a horseback tour if they wish to ride. Both seclusion and good company are in abundance at the New Forest.
The UK plays host to destinations that are both dazzling and bustling as well as relaxed and comforting. Each member of the family will find something to remember on a fun weekend break to the UK. Pack up the family and some extra clothes and head out for a quick break in the United Kingdom.
