Walking Around The Great Ocean Road

The Great Ocean Road was recently voted as the best Australian road-trip destination by customers of Vroom, Vroom, Vroom, a leading Australian car rental company. However, while the road is incredibly scenic, nothing beats walking the destination and exploring the beauty of the destination at your own pace:

While many people like to walk the route alone and explore the region in their own time, there are also travellers that see the route as a great way to socialise and meet like-minded travellers. These people can often find Melbourne travel deals on package trips, with prices to suit all budgets. There are many different options for accommodation, with something to suit every budget. One recommendation is Bothfeet, a lodge that has been designed especially with walkers in mind.  The boutique hotel only caters for ten people at a time, but their walk and stay packages are one of the best ways to experience the Great Ocean Walk. A total of 104km, the 6-day package takes in the full walk from Apollo Bay to the Twelve Apostles. You can enjoy a relaxing foot spa and three course meal after a day’s walking. At 4pm, with the day’s walking over, you’ll be collected and chauffeured back to the lodge for a free massage and pre-dinner cocktail.

Travellers that opt to do the full trek over a seven night, eight day period certainly won’t forget this Australia travel experience in a hurry. Ending at the Twelve Apostles, visitors start their walk at the Apollo Bay visitor centre. On the first day visitors will walk alongside the scenic beaches of Storm Point, Three Creeks and Shelley, covering an average of 15km per day. Highlights include viewing the anchors just on Wreck Beach, learning about the polar dinosaurs at Castle Cove and watching seals bask on the rocks just off Marengo Bay. A popular accommodation option is camping, with many visitors opting to camp on route. If you wish to camp then forward-planning is vital – you’ll need to secure a camping permit from Parks Victoria at least two weeks before embarking on the walk.
