Volunteering Overseas – Fundraising Ideas
It is not uncommon for people wanting to participate as a volunteer abroad.
Although it may appear a little strange for people to pay for work abroad there is a very good reason for this. The fee that you pay then covers your accommodation, food, transport and support from a company representative in the country. If you didn’t travel with a company you would be all on your own.
Before you think that volunteer projects abroad is too expensive then you may want to think about fundraising through your family, friends and your local community to gather support and money which will enable you to travel abroad to take part in a gap year.
Family and friends are the most likely people to help you with your fundraising for your gap year so starting with them is a safe bet. Once they know you are doing it to help other people then I’m sure they will help you out financially.
You can try approaching people in a unique way rather than just picking the phone up and asking people for money. You could try making unique cards with the reason you are fundraising and possibly add a fun element to the process to get as many people involved as possible.
A fundraising event usually seems to be the most popular and successful way of getting the money you need to travel. You can do it at a local restaurant, church or community hall and create a stand so everyone can see what you will be doing giving them more reasons to donate money to you.
Whether you decide to volunteer in Zimbabwe or volunteer in South Africa you are guaranteed the experience of a lifetime and all the hard work you put into the fundraising will all be worthwhile.
