Hotel Deals

Holidaymakers looking for somewhere to enjoy the warm Mediterranean spring weather should consider hotel deals in Italy. Turn and Milan are very popular destinations, but if you want to make the most of Italy you should probably head to one of the coastal cities. These are the best vacations because visitors can enjoy the best of historical Italy before heading to the beach for a day of sunshine. {The Sicilian city of Palermo will have excellent weather in the springtime and is close enough to the mountains for visitors that enjoy hiking}.

Two very interesting places to visit are Palermo and Sicily. Over the last three thousand years these destinations have had many different rulers who have all left there mark in many ways. The buildings in the centre of Palermo are the first giveaway with their Arabic influences of immaculately smooth arched walls topped by imposing domes. You can observe the architectural delights of the Palazzo Reale, which is a great example of superb Islamic architecture. When the Normans took over the city in 1072 they set about turning the main palace into their sumptuous royal headquarters.

Take a ferry to the mainland for a visit to the southern city of Naples after staying in one of the cheap hotels in Palermo. Visitors here can explore the various sites that are dotted across the city before venturing to one of the vantage points above the bay which has excellent views of the imposing Mount Vesuvius.

The mixture of architectural styles that are present in the Castel Nuovo make it one of the more unusual sites in Naples. Having a carved stone facade between two medieval turrets is very bold and original but comes as no surprise in a city like Naples. The arcade that houses Italy’s oldest opera – Galleria Umberto I – is another wonderful site that has influenced the development of other buildings throughout Europe and the rest of the world.

There is a large collection of well preserved artefacts at the National Archaeological museum, which were recovered from the ruins of Pompeii. Holidaymakers that don’t mind venturing slightly further from their hotels in central Naples can go to Pompeii and walk among the ruins of the ancient city which in 79 AD fell victim to the explosive force of Mount Vesuvius.
