Camping The Light Way – Discover The Benefits Of Being A Lightweight Camper
It is not to everybody’s taste to go on their camping trip in the car, or to be stuck at a crowded campsite. A very popular method is hiking from campsite to campsite, carrying all the belongings that you could need for your entire holiday. Backpacking from site to site is a very rewarding experience in terms of doing your bit for the environment and a great way to see the sites of the countryside. There is certainly something magical about roaming from one place to next with everything you need on your back, from erecting your tent to being able to cook your evening meal.
Outing up a tent in woodland or a beach by the sea is a great experience, just ensure that it is legal where you decide to pitch or if the land is owned by a landowner make sure that you seek permission before you pitch.
There are so many options available for lightweight campers now. Everything from lightweight tents to lightweight sleeping bags and camping pots and pans made from super-light metal. You will need to fit everything you are going to need in your backpack so you need to ensure that you are used to carrying a heavy pack. If you find this task a little daunting then before your camping trip ensure to build up with pack on your back and start doing hikes. Start of low then build up to carrying a larger weight. This is not only good exercise but will make sure that you will have the physical fitness required when it comes to your camping holiday.
If you are hiking between different campsites be sure to brush up on your map-reading skills. You can get various GPS devices which can do more than a map, but in my experience it is always good to have a backup. The bottom line is if you decide to hike out in the open countryside it is paramount that you know where you are going.
Be aware to the fact that if you are lightweight camping on your own out in the open it can be hazardous. I would always recommend at least a pair of people to go lightweight camping, ideally a group of you. Unfortunately you do get unscrupulous people trying their luck on the lone camper, so be sure to be vigilant when camping and make sure that your camping equipment is never left unattended.
