Four of the Best Spain Villas for a Winter Break

In case it’s slipped your notice, winter is well underway. You can look at this two ways: either it’s the start of a couple of solid months of grey and gloom; or it’s the chance to escape the wintry northern wastelands and slip off for a little bit of winter sun down south. And with this in mind, here’s a roundup of a handful of fantastic Spain villas to make sure the arrival of winter doesn’t get you down…

Villa Riachuelo; Axarquia, Malaga

Tucked into the lower reaches of the Sierra de Tejeda in southern Spain, a week or two at Villa Riachuelo – one of the smartest and most comfortable Malaga villas out there – is what winter sunshine breaks are all about. Admittedly, sometimes the clouds can roll down from the mountains and make it a little damp, but for the rest of the time, temperatures rarely get below the very pleasant.

Casita Julian; Mijas, Malaga

If it’s year-round warm temperatures you’re looking for, then Casita Julian is definitely the place for you. There aren’t too many parts of Europe that can claim as many sunny days per year as Malaga and the Costa del Sol, where the villa’s based. A comfortable two-bedroom affair, it’s roomy and there are plenty of stylish touches here, there and everywhere that puts it right up there for a choice of Malaga villa.

Casita Characoles; Sierra Nevada, Granada

Over in Granada Province things are a little different. For starters the year-round sunshine has diminished a little and the winter temperatures have dropped a bit, too. That said, temperatures rarely get too chilly and the clear, crisp winter days you get in inland Andalucia in winter are wonderfully refreshing. The house itself is lovely: a rustic little place that’s very much in harmony with its landscape that still delivers in the comfort stakes – in the form of a rather indulgent Jacuzzi!

La Estrella; Sierra Nevada, Granada

Not a million miles from Casita Characoles in the little hamlet of Canar is a stylish (and very un-villagey) holiday apartment of La Estrella. Combine the virtues of Casita Julian – namely the stylish and decidedly luxe-leaning facilities – and the out-of-the-way rural charms of Casita Characoles and you get the allure of La Estrella.
