Find Beauty and Adventure on an Amazon River Cruise

If you’re looking for the ultimate adventure without sacrificing the comforts of home, then an Amazon river cruise is just what you’re looking for. See the most remote areas of the Amazon from the comfort of an air conditioned suite. Both educational and exciting, a trip down the Amazon will give you greater understanding of one of the largest ecosystems on Earth. What better place to see all the wild animals of the rainforest than in their natural habitat?

Below are a few of the most popular destinations to visit when taking a cruise on the Amazon.

Alta Do Chao: Secluded beaches straight out of a movie scene are what awaits you at this port/resort. Alta Do Chao offers pristine white sands coupled with amazing views you don’t want to miss. Covered with lush green trees and sprinkled with cottages along the river, this area of the Amazon is one of the most popular. Nearby you can visit the remnants of Henry Ford’s failed rubber plantations, Fordlandia and Belterra.

Manaus: This amazing port is the deepest (More than a thousand miles away from the ocean) navigable port on the Amazon. The beauty of the rainforest combined with the vast array of wildlife prevalent here are enough to take anyone’s breath away. The local villagers here, some of whom are direct descendants of the Mayans, will take you back to a time before cellphones and laptops.

Parintins: Every year in June, a huge festival known as the Boi Bumba is organized by the inhabitants of Parintins. Some of the most astounding souvenirs can be collected at this festival and if you’re lucky you might even end up with an ancient Mayan artifact. Starting as a friendly competition between two local families, the Boi Bumba has grown into a festival of more than 10,000 people.

These are just some of the many beautiful places you can visit on the Amazon river. Different companies offer cruises in different areas, and each of these companies add their own unique touch. There are both large and small cruise ships operating on the Amazon, and which one you choose is dependent on where you want to see, and what you want to do.
