Holiday Homes: The Perfect Choice of Holiday Accommodation?

In travel terms some things have always been considered to be eternal. But in recent years there’s been a shift away from the time-honoured British package holiday and the resort hotel to holiday homes. Why? Well, for the three main reasons laid out below, essentially…

1. They’re Cheaper

There’s no two ways about it: holiday homes – whether they’re in the form of a holiday villa in Spain for a family holiday or a smart London apartment for a city break – are cheaper than hotels. And not just by a little bit, either – by a lot.

First of all there’s the nightly rate to consider; and the cost of a nice rental property for a family of four for a week, say, will be at least half the price of even the cheapest available hotel. Toss in the savings made on food bills from not eating in expensive hotel restaurants and you’re looking at having reduced the strain on your credit card pretty significantly!

2. They’re Everywhere

There’s no shortage of good hotels in the big towns and cities. And popular beaches and coastal areas tend not to lack on the accommodation front, either. But head inland – into the rural heartlands of almost any country you care to mention – and the accommodation can quite quickly become a little limited. Except in one important department: holiday homes for rent; these invariably tend to be scattered across the less well-trodden regions. Which means that, rather than just the tourist hotspots, you get to see more of the ‘real’ country on your holiday.

3. They’re Tailor-made for Family Holidays (And You Can Do what You Like…)

When compared to a hotel rental accommodation, with holiday villas obviously to the fore, could hardly be better suited to a family holiday. Because hotels are all about one thing: rules. No bombing in the pool; no entry to the restaurant with shorts; breakfast only available from 0700 to 1000.

After all, which hotel gives you your own private pool for the kids to splash around in? (That anyone other than a member of the House of Saud is likely to be able to afford, anyway…) Which hotel allows you to crank up a barbecue on the terrace as the sun sets? In which hotel can you do exactly as you please for a week? Answer: none. In a holiday home it’s a case of your house, your rules.
