Florida Vacation Things To Do – 4 Great Ways to Enjoy Sunny Florida
Florida and Vacations go together like ice cream and apple pie. During the long winter (or any time of year) you dream of fun, sun and relaxation. Florida is the place to go. Here are five great ways a Florida vacation will have you singing, and it won’t be the blues.
1) Florida beaches are the best you will find anywhere. They are clean, the water is clear and the locals are friendly. Clearwater Beach is on the doorstep of Tampa and St. Petersburg. It is very popular and offers loads of activities and things to do.
For beach romance and shell collecting try the Sanibel Island beaches located a little down the Gulf Coast from Clearwater Beach.
Enjoy the Atlantic waters at one of the best known beaches in the world, Daytona Beach.
If nightlife and people-watching are your style, then head to Miami Beach. For pure relaxation and pristine sands try the long shorelines of Fort Lauderdale Beach.
In the northwest panhandle you will find the Gulf beaches are less crowded and have some of the softest white sand you could possibly want.
2) It’s no wonder Florida is called the golf capital of the world. No other state hosts more PGA-sanctioned golf events. The weather and landscape are perfect for golf and there are loads of public courses. Here is a short list of some of the top ones.
In central Florida there’s the Southern Dunes, Haines City (only a short drive from Disney), Orange County National in Orlando (45-holes here with a huge practice facility) and World Woods in Brooksville (out in the natural countryside a little north of Tampa).
Heading south there’s Delray Beach’s Polo Trace (links-style course with back-to-back par fives), Crandon Park, Key Biscayne (great views from the island) or Eastwood Golf Course in Fort Meyers.
In the north you can head to the award-winning Kelly Plantation Golf Club in Destin (next to Choctawatchee Bay) or Waterlefe Golf and River Club in Bradenton (see manatees in the Manatee River).
3) There are loads of great places for a Florida fishing vacation.
The Everglades National Park is a national treasure and is big with fishing enthusiasts. Snapper and sea trout are top saltwater catches. Hire a guide and charter boat at popular resorts like Flamingo Lodge.
At Anna Maria Island, below Tampa you can fish from the Anna Maris City Pier, rent a boat for fishing at one of the many marinas or join a deep sea fishing tour.
The Keys, all the way down at the southern tip of Florida is a hot spot for fishing/party boat charters, deep sea and coral fishing charters and guided backwater fishing charters.
4) Scuba diving and snorkeling are popular activities in Florida. In the Key Largo area, John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park and Looe Key National Marine Sanctuary are top spots with clear water and thousands of sunken ships to explore.
For cave diving, the area around High Springs and Banford has been called the "cave-diving capital of the world". Dive the warm, clear spring waters at Ginnie Springs resort and Ichetucknee Springs State Park.
Boca Raton is a good spot for both scuba diving and snorkeling. The most popular spot is Moray Bend with a 58 foot diving spot. Red Reef Park is a 67-acre oceanfront park that is good place for beginners.
