Camping Out – Organizing Tips

Camping is fun and many people know it and practice it. The idea of sleeping out in a tent and in a sleeping bag tempts most of us at least during a stage of our lives. Kids get excited with the idea, both because it breaks away from the bedroom and ordered structure of their lives and simply because they enjoy the idea, the adventure and nature. (Maybe we should learn a lot more from our children).

It is one of the best ways of fighting stress where we leave our problems behind and focus on some of the important things in life, such as friendship and family.

For those who camp alone, and it is safe to say they are or should be expert campers, the benefits of being in contact with nature are difficult to pinpoint, but certainly enormous.

There are also different types of camping opportunities. Short or longer trips, for fishing, hunting or hiking. Just for the fun of it as well. In established camping sites or if you are in luck and the laws permit it, in far off places with nobody else around.

Whatever your reasons and whatever the type of camping expedition you are looking or, there are certain things that must be taken into account. The most important one is to keep it simple. We have a tendency to complicate our lives, and perhaps this is one of the attractions of camping – camping out should mean practicing a simpler, less complicated, activity. After all you are getting away from the television, electricity, kitchens, traffic, and all those things that are part of our everyday life and supposedly make it easier, but rarely do.

The first thing to do is to plan and organize the stuff that you will be taking with you. This will obviously depend on the type of camping trip, how long it will last and how many people are involved. Whatever the case may be you will need camping gear, personal supplies and food related stuff (this will include the actual food, how you will store it and serve it as well as the cooking side of things).

With these categories you can start by organizing them in three sections.

Lists are the first thing so in the camping gear section go the sleeping bags, the tents, torches, and whatever else you think you need.

Personal supplies, are that so you can quickly organize them. Just remember keep it simple.

The food section. This should be separated into two. One will include the camping stove, the utensils, the frying pans, the glasses and plates. The other will be the food you take. Your best bet here is to design menus for each meal.

You can add to the items on the list a symbol, perhaps a plus sign, for those things you cannot do without. When everything is ready the chances are that you don’t have enough space and will be forced to remove items. Those with the plus sign have a staying priority over the others.

Now you have the lists, round-up the gear and get ready to start packing. An additional advantage is that by packing based on the lists you will easily find everything you need when you get to your camp site.
